What we do for documents going to Egypt
Let's be straight with you: Egypt is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (checked against the Hague Conference status table in October 2026). A Florida apostille, from us or anyone, won't be accepted there.
What a Florida document needs instead starts with a Florida Department of State authentication certificate, the non-Hague counterpart of an apostille. That's the part we handle. We review your document, file it in person in Tallahassee, and send it back to you in 5–7 business days. The price is the same as an apostille: $220 for one document, $380 for two, $160 each for three or more, with U.S. shipping included ($100 flat for international delivery).
For Egypt, we often see powers of attorney for property and family matters, marriage and divorce records, and employment letters.
The usual Florida rules apply: original certified copies of public records, original notarizations with a complete Florida notarial certificate, and school records notarized by the school when issued. Need something notarized first? Add online notarization to your order.
What happens next at Egypt's consulate
Egypt's embassy in Washington publishes its own legalization procedure, and it's more specific than most:
- Jurisdiction: its consular section handles documents from Florida (along with Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia).
- Authentication by the U.S. Department of State: the procedure requires it for court records and for marriage and divorce records issued by a court or county, before the consulate legalizes them.
- Notarized letters: for employment letters and medical reports, the notary must witness the signature, and the notary's seal must sit next to the signature, not on a separate page.
- Education: degrees and certificates go to Egypt's cultural office first.
- Mail: the consulate says it accepts mailed documents only through the U.S. Postal Service.
Read the consulate's current procedure for your exact document before you start.
We don't handle or arrange the U.S. Department of State authentication or the embassy legalization. Once we return your Florida-authenticated document, you continue directly with those offices.
Getting the Florida part right for Egypt
Because the notarization rule is strict, make sure your Florida notarization has a complete certificate with the seal beside the signature. Marriage and divorce records must be fresh certified copies: certified by the State Registrar or the Clerk of Court. Ask the office in Egypt that will receive your document whether it needs an Arabic translation.
