Death Certificate apostille for Peru.

Sending a Florida death certificate to Peru — typically for dual citizenship, property powers of attorney — takes exactly one certificate: a Florida apostille from the Department of State in Tallahassee. Peru is a Hague member, so once the apostille is attached, no consulate or embassy step is needed on the U.S. side.

The part that causes rejections is the document itself: the state will only apostille a certified copy from the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics — for most international uses, the version without cause of death. The state fee for this document type is $10 — included in our $220 either way — and our pre-filing review confirms your copy is in the right lane before it ever reaches the counter.

Order online from anywhere in the U.S.: we review your documents, then FedEx emails you a pre-paid QR code, your death certificate rides to our Tallahassee team, gets walked in to the state counter in person, and comes back apostilled in 5–7 business days. Peru-side requirements like certified translation are done after — so the apostille certificate is covered too.

How a Florida death certificate is used in Peru

When a Peruvian dies in Florida, RENIEC expects the death to be registered at the consulate first. For registration at RENIEC itself, the death certificate must be apostilled and translated into Spanish through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The certificate is also the starting point for an intestate succession (sucesión intestada), often handled by a Peruvian notary and then registered at SUNARP so heirs can deal with property. Order more than one certified copy, because the consulate, the notary and a bank may each keep one.

Translation for Peru

Our standard for a translation is a translator's certification, notarized by a different notary, with its own Florida apostille. Peruvian offices may instead require their own translator: SUNARP asks for a translation by a traductor público juramentado (sworn public translator), RENIEC refers to translation through Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and SUNEDU asks for an official certified translation. Ask the office that will receive your document which one it accepts, and translate after the apostille.
