FDLE Background Check apostille for Spain.

Sending a Florida fdle background check to Spain — typically for residency (NIE) paperwork, citizenship by descent, and university enrollment — takes exactly one certificate: a Florida apostille from the Department of State in Tallahassee. Spain is a Hague member, so once the apostille is attached, no consulate or embassy step is needed on the U.S. side.

The part that causes rejections is the document itself: the state will only apostille the certified FDLE record, notarized when FDLE issues it — an Instant Search printout is not apostillable. The state fee for this document type is $10 — included in our $220 either way — and our pre-filing review confirms your copy is in the right lane before it ever reaches the counter.

Order online from anywhere in the U.S.: we review your documents, then FedEx emails you a pre-paid QR code, your fdle background check rides to our Tallahassee team, gets walked in to the state counter in person, and comes back apostilled in 5–7 business days. Spain-side requirements like certified translation are done after — so the apostille certificate is covered too.

How a Florida fdle background check is used in Spain

Be careful here: for Spain, an FDLE record is often the wrong document. The Spanish consulate in New York's checklist for the non-lucrative residence visa says FBI records are valid for the U.S. and that local and state police checks are not accepted. Consulates set their own lists, so check the one that serves you, but don't assume a Florida record will do. FDLE still comes up occasionally, for a Spanish employer or volunteer program that names a state check. In that case, it must be notarized when FDLE issues it.

Translation for Spain

Our general rule is a translation certified by the translator, notarized by a different notary and apostilled in Florida. Spain may instead require a traducción jurada by a sworn translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which publishes a searchable list. For nationality files, the Ministry of Justice also accepts translations done or checked at Spanish consulates abroad. Translate after the apostille and include the apostille page.
