Marriage Certificate apostille for Spain.

Sending a Florida marriage certificate to Spain — typically for residency (NIE) paperwork, citizenship by descent, and university enrollment — takes exactly one certificate: a Florida apostille from the Department of State in Tallahassee. Spain is a Hague member, so once the apostille is attached, no consulate or embassy step is needed on the U.S. side.

The part that causes rejections is the document itself: the state will only apostille a certified copy from the Clerk of Court in the county that issued the license, or from the state Bureau of Vital Statistics. The state fee for this document type is $10–$20 depending on the certifying office — included in our $220 either way — and our pre-filing review confirms your copy is in the right lane before it ever reaches the counter.

Order online from anywhere in the U.S.: we review your documents, then FedEx emails you a pre-paid QR code, your marriage certificate rides to our Tallahassee team, gets walked in to the state counter in person, and comes back apostilled in 5–7 business days. Spain-side requirements like certified translation are done after — so the apostille certificate is covered too.

How a Florida marriage certificate is used in Spain

If a Spaniard marries in Florida, Spain's Ministry of Justice says the marriage is recorded at the Registro Civil of the couple's domicile in Spain, or the process can start at the Registro Civil Central. The Florida certificate must be apostilled and, being in English, translated by a sworn translator. The registrar can interview each spouse separately and will ask for proof that any earlier marriage was dissolved. Florida's certificate must carry the State Registrar's or a County Court Clerk's signature, certified in 2014 or later.

Translation for Spain

Our general rule is a translation certified by the translator, notarized by a different notary and apostilled in Florida. Spain may instead require a traducción jurada by a sworn translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which publishes a searchable list. For nationality files, the Ministry of Justice also accepts translations done or checked at Spanish consulates abroad. Translate after the apostille and include the apostille page.
